Martin Luther King Jr. Prompt Martin Luther King Jr. had a dream that one day his children would live in a world where they would not get judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream that is similar; my dream is that one day we as America’s people can live together without judgment, hatred, steeling, and lying! Although we got rid of the slavery and racism, people still put people's color and how they look in the line of judgment. Is it right? No, but we do it anyways. Why? Because it is easy for someone to point out someone else’s faults before we look at our own.
Nobody really sits back and takes a look at the big picture of where we came from as a country. For judgment on one's skin color or the way that they look is not a way of living it is just as way to make someone feel better about their own faults or their own ugliness on the outside. Now granted everyone in this country grew up differently but we all should be able to see the difference in right and wrong. We came from learning from our mistakes and growing from them, but have we….no. It is not just a few people that still act like this is a way of living it is never going to go away. It is at the mall, it is at work, and it is at schools! And as if it is not enough to judge someone by the color of their skin but we have bullies that like to tease others because of their size being fat, or skinny, tall, or short. From a personal stand point, they do it to make their own faults disappear. When they do not go away their faults are still their. Hey it makes them feel better.
Schools say they do not and will not tolerate bullying, yet what do they do to stop it? What do they do? Nothing, nothing whatsoever! I myself would love to understand how powerful it makes people to put others down because of their faults, how powerful it makes someone feel when they make fun of someone’s size, how they look, how they dress, or whether they are white trailer trash. I do not understand how it makes people feel to make others feel this way.
My dream is that teenagers will stop killing themselves because some other snotty teenagers call them a name or say something mean about them. My dream is that boys and girls can be and will be comfortable in their own skin and not have to hide themselves due to the carelessness of others. Because when a student goes to a teacher or the principal about someone bullying them what exactly is done about it? The teacher or principle says, “Just leave them alone”, or “don’t do it again”. What does this do? If a kid wants to be mean, a brut to someone, then it is going to happen if nothing is done about it. Why do the bullies get to keep bullying? Because there is no proof of anything the bullies and the bullied get to walk away.
My dream is that one day kids, teens, and adults will all realize where we are today where we came from, and what we should have learned. My dream is that people will take a second and smell the roses, and realize that kids are being taught certain things for a reason because we are supposed to learn from history and not make the same mistakes again. I dream of one day living in a world where nobody will care what color your skin is how tall or short you are, or how skinny or how fat. It is what is on the inside. My dream is to one day not be judged by anything but my character and what I stand for. My dream is to have a safe place to be where nobody is judged.
